Pyrazolines I (R = Ph, R1 = Ph, 4-ClC6H4, 3,4-Cl2C6H3; R = 4-ClC6H4, R1 = Ph, 4-ClC6H4) were obtained by dipolar cycloaddn. of R1NHN:CRCl with 5-ethyl-2-vinylpyridine. II (R = R1 = Ph, 4-ClC6H4, R2 = Et; R = 2,4-Cl2C6H3, R1 = Ph, R2 = Me) were similarly obtained from R1NHN:CRCl and R2O2CCH:CHCO2R2. II were dehydrogenated with chloranil and treated with N2H4 to give pyrazolopyridines III. Reaction of 4-ClC6H4NHN:CClC6H4Cl-4 with maleic acid hydrazide gave IV.
